 The Therapy Process

If you express interest in scheduling your first session, we will have a brief intake call to discuss what brings you into therapy. If I am the best fit for you, we will schedule an initial session and review your intake paperwork and the counseling agreement. The first three sessions will be an assessment period to ensure that we will work well together. We also spend those sessions determining your treatment goals and collaboratively creating a treatment plan. The number of sessions and amount of time in therapy is different for each client. Typically, we will begin with weekly sessions and then increase the amount of time between sessions, ultimately terminating when you feel your goals have been met.

Specialities and Services

Individual Therapy

I work from an individualistic approach to provide the therapeutic model that works best for each client. During the therapeutic process, we will work together to identify problematic behaviors, thoughts and emotions that you would like to shift or change. We will also work on specific tools and interventions that will help you achieve the goals you have identified. As your therapist, I will listen empathically, provide psychoeducation and uphold ethical standards.

Family Therapy

Using a systemic approach, I work with families that are in distress or feel as though they are experiencing a crisis. I believe that it is a privilege to ensure that each member of the family feels valued and respected in session. Through years of extensive experience working with adolescents, I feel comfortable helping children and parents to better connect and improve communication. When working with families, I primarily utilize techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Solution Focused Therapy to address concerns including, but not limited to: social skills, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, school refusal, and substance abuse.

Parent Coaching

I have a background in early childhood development and working with adolescents in a variety of clinical and educational settings. I utilize the teachings of the Love and Logic Program and Dr. Jane Nelsen’s Positive Discipline to work with parents on effective strategies for raising well-adjusted children. Together we will work on interventions that can be implemented both at home and in school. I also provide care-coordination so that these interventions can be successfully implemented in multiple settings. As your parent coach, I will use basic neuroscience techniques to help you better understand your child and their behaviors. Parent Coaching may also include consulting on options for different treatment programs and levels of care for adolescents.
